Courtney's daycare

We haven't been here in a while. Let's see how things are going at the daycare.

Looks like the babies get only the best of care... with a smile!

The infants require the most care, of course. Keeps her pretty busy!

But she does love her babies!

Corn bees' wings

There seems to be a lack of information, not to mention images, of corn bees' wings on the internet. So this post shall rectify that (and hopefully answer JHRME's questions). ;-)

Bees' wings are tiny bits of chaff from the corn cob. Here's what they look like, with a pen for size comparison.

Here's a closer look, albeit not terribly clear.

Yep, they're just teeny-tiny little bits of 'stuff', very thin, and they blow around easily. When unloading corn into the grain bins, these little "wings" float around everywhere. The ground gets covered, sometimes even several inches deep, depending on the wind. Of course, if it's windy, they blow all over the place... and end up on trees, houses, lawns, windows, people, people's eyes, etc. I wanted to get a pic of them on the ground, but unfortunately today the ground is covered with something else. It's white. See below.

So now you know.

Here's why

Yep, this is why I had to finish the windows on Tuesday. This was on its way and is what I got up to this morning. It snowed lightly most of the day. And I have a hunch it's here to stay. It's currently 10° and falling (at 6:20 p.m.).

Notice it even sifting off the garage roof in the photo below.

The GOOD news is... harvest and tillage is DONE (barely)! (Thought you'd like to know that, Mark! :-) )

Window washing... why?

Yesterday, with Courtney's "help", I finally finished washing my windows. Just in time, too, according to the weather forecast which says we'll have nothing above freezing for the next week at least. I always put plastic over some of the windows, too, which I did on these kitchen ones yesterday.

I'll tell you, I've never been asked SO MANY QUESTIONS while doing windows before! Most of them started with "why". And sometimes that was the whole question. And sometimes (when she couldn't think of anything else to ask?) it was: "Grandma?" "What?" "Grandma?" "What?" "Grandma?" "WHAT!" "Grandma!" "Courtney?" ...Silence... 'Course that silence only lasted two seconds. ;-)

Also, Courtney was fascinated with the ladder. So when I wanted to step down, it was either gone... or occupied.

Anyway, we got the job done. And I'm not complaining, mind you. It was delightful having company while I worked. And she was happy, so what more could we ask for? :-)

Good morning!

Yeah, I know... it's not morning anymore. It's pitch dark at night. But it was a good morning this morning. A very beautiful one. Here's what it looked like. And just pretend you can connect these pics side-by-side.
