I got a number of cool sewing things for Christmas. What I'm showing you today is a very handy little tool that I've already found quite useful. It's called a Sixth Finger Stiletto, and it came from here. This is what it looks like:
It has all kinds of possible uses, but one of the best was what I used it for yesterday. I was turning under a neckline on a very little garment (possibly for a certain American Girl doll) and pressing it as I went. It was only a ¼" fold, and pinked at that, so turning it was a challenge, not to mention pressing it without burning my fingers. That's where the stiletto came into use. I folded over the edge, then used the stiletto to hold the fold while I pressed it.
No burned or steamed fingers - hurray! I used it all the way around the neckline. It worked like a charm!
The only hard part was taking the pictures! I could've used another hand or two for holding the stiletto, the iron, and the camera. :)

I need one of those. Yes. Especially after ironing 9 bags which were small. And there was one especially fiddly bag's bias binding that would've heard less gnashing of teeth if I'd had one of these. I'll try to find it in one of SIngapore's crazy notion shops when I'm next there!
Hope you can find one, LiEr! You'll love it!
Oooo, glad it's a useful thing! And I recognize that fabric. It's a classic.
Classic, all right... a nightgown for me, then one for your Baby Beth... all those years ago! Courtney chose it because it matches Beth's. :)
I want one!!! It could be used for all kinds of projects!
Go for it, Jill! You won't be sorry! ;)
I think I need one of these. I have a stiletto that I use a lot but I like the two "fingers" on this one--sometimes a stiletto just isn't enough.
