Now REALLY... was that necessary?!

This was the view of my sewing room window on Sunday morning (down at the bottom):

Lovely, huh? Granted, it was dirty already, but not THAT bad!

Those were certainly no kitten tracks!

No doubt it was a raccoon.

It sure did a job of making a mess!

I wonder what the point was of all that smearing??? Maybe it was a whole family peering in the window?

All the wild critters around here have not been making me very happy lately.

Unwanted guests

We have visitors on the deck every night. It appears that they use the birdbath for washing, often leaving it quite muddy (and sometimes it ends up on the floor of the deck, or on the ground), and our living room windows for drying. This is how the windows looked a couple weeks ago. They're much worse now.

They even get on the slanted railing next to the steps and reach around to the corner window.

Yes, it's raccoons. Anybody got any remedy ideas??? (NO, I'm NOT providing towels!)

On my basement window...

... are these lovely tracks. I don't know what they are, but they must be either woodchuck or raccoon. I've seen a woodchuck around here a few times lately, and we always have raccoons. They appear to both be from the same foot. I guess the other foot wasn't muddy and didn't leave tracks as whatever it was peeked in my window.

I've searched and found images of both kinds of tracks. I'm leaning toward saying they're woodchuck tracks, except that those I've seen pics of have only 4 toes on the front foot. These tracks below have a faint 5th toeprint. Yet 'coon toeprints are usually longer.

Help me out here, all you tracking hunters! What are they???

Update: So far I have one educated guess for raccoon. Anybody else?

Another update: I haven't received any more guesses, educated or otherwise, so I'm going to conclude that these are raccoon tracks, based on having read that woodchucks have only 4 toes on their front feet. Maybe this was a young 'coon, thus the shorter toes. I'm still open to correction, however. :-)
