Wild sunflowers

Oh, dear... another photo-heavy post. But hey, that's what this blog is about, right? "A Photo's Worth a thousand words"! So I'll let the photos do most of the talking today.

I actually took these three weeks ago, and every time I've thought about posting them, I didn't know how to narrow them down, because I love how they turned out, and I couldn't decide which ones to eliminate! The subject is all the same... wild sunflowers, of which we had a lot alongside our driveway, and the evening sun was just right for photographing. So here ya go... ENJOY!

Oh, yes... I have a lot more. :) But ya get the idea.....

Yes, yes, YES!

On July 30th, I posted the below photo (minus the arrows) and asked if anyone noticed anything unusual about it. I only got one comment, which said "They seem to be camera shy." That was sort of along the right track, but not quite correct. Someone else did tell me in person what the right answer was, but I was hoping somebody would leave the answer in a comment. I was thinking about bumping the post back to the front page till I got a correct answer, but hadn't decided whether to do that or not.

But now I don't have to, because last night I DID get the correct answer in a comment! WAY TO GO, KRIS!!! I wish I had a prize for you, but I don't. Then again, I could give you a bouquet of sunflowers next time you're down this way. ;-) Anyway, THANKS for being so observant and letting us know what you saw.

For those of you who haven't figured it out yet, it's that all of the sunflowers are facing the sun, except for ONE (that the arrows point to). Click on the photo to see a larger and clearer version.

Whew! I'm glad that's solved! :-)

Do you see what I see?

I also took this photo this morning. Do you notice anything unusual?

From the wildflower bed

The pink baby's breath has now been pretty much taken over by the blue of the bachelor buttons.

Although there is getting to be quite a bit of the plains coreopsis now, too.

I've only found 2 clarkia plants that have come back from last year.

And there are a couple of coneflowers like this that I didn't even have last year. I don't know where they came from!

The vanilla ice sunflowers reseeded themselves from last year, too. I don't think they're quite as nice as last year's though. They're certainly not as tall. But they still are nice.

And that's what's out there for now, except for some white godetia that don't photograph well, and besides, the only ones that were blooming just got chewed off by... SOMETHING. Rabbit? Woodchuck? *sigh*
