I accidentally found myself waaaay too close to this wasp nest just a little while ago. Looks like they're on guard and ready to attack, doesn't it? (Look at their shadows behind them, too.) But they didn't come after me... maybe because they were in bed for the night. But I went after them, even if it was bedtime! Got 'em all, too.
After I sprayed them, I knocked the nest onto the ground. Just look at all the live larvae peeking out of the holes, not to mention the remaining eggs just waiting to hatch!
(Click either pic to enlarge if you dare!)
Yeah.... EEEUUUWWW!!!!!
(I wonder if I'm done with bugs yet. I hadn't intended this many buggy posts!)
(I bet you looked, didn't you JHRME? ;-) )

Glad you got 'em before they got you!
Me, too!!
I confess I looked but mostly because I wanted to comment my appreciation. Haha besides when someone tells you not to look, its like reverse psychology. You almost have to.
GOTCHA!! ;)
Oh I love these bug stories.
Wonderful pictures.
I really enjoyed the moth pictures too.

Thanks, Dale!
You are a real "Bug-ologist"! How ever did yu develope an interest in all things 'creepy'? I tend to be more squeemish than you are. I'll stick with the birds and flowers. But you Go- Girl , I am facinated by all the facts you dig up to go with the pics you snap. I would never think to look for cicada --shells- if you will. Or would I know what they were if I came upon them. I would never have found a live or dead carcus of the adult cicada. I did however know what they sounded like but now knowing what they loook like I guess I don't like the "buzz of tiny chainsaws so much anymore. I had read somewhere that they have something like a 17 year reproduction cycle. If that is true it is a good thing or we would be overcome by the ugly 'buggers" . And as for wasps YIKES! You are really brave!
Oh, Grace... you know I'm just a creepy ol' bugger myself! lol Brave? Maybe kind of... but if they didn't go after me when I nearly bumped my head on their nest, I figured I was pretty safe taking pics from a little more distance.
Actually, my eyes are always on the lookout for anything photo-worthy. I can't help it. :)
Anyway... thanks!
