I found one

A cicada:

Albeit quite a dead one.

Here's a little size comparison:

I wonder if I can get Courtney to hold it tomorrow. ;-)

So now any of you who didn't know before what cicadas look like, now you know. And now I know. In person. This was my first, that I can remember, anyway. And I won't mind if it's my last.

(Just what you wanted to see, right Becky?)

Update note to Dale: Tonight there were more of them singing. It was like there were several choirs of them scattered around, and each choir was singing differently. There were different rhythms, and one group had no rhythm at all. Interesting!

One's first cicada is quite a memorable moment. I hear them every August - quite loud. I now know what they look like and find a few stragglers. I am not in any hurry to repeat the infestation of 3 years ago!

Oops! I offended your senses again, didn't I? I'm sorry. No more cicadas.

Oh, yeah... the project. It's actually very close to being done!!

It's been too long since I've looked at blogs, but you are still taking amazing photos! What kind of camera do you use & what are your preferred lenses? I'm about to upgrade to a dSLR.
Courtney has grown so much...what a beautiful little girl she is!
We are loving having Megan & her family here, though I feel bad that she & Jess can't hang out together. I told Jess she has a room at my house whenever she wants to come visit Megan!

Thanks, Megan's mom! Nice to have you back!

My camera is a Kodak Z740. I love it. It does all the thinking for me. :) I know absolutely nothing about macro or lenses or any of that stuff. I use the 'Auto' setting most of the time (and the closeup setting most of the rest of the time), so the camera decides how best to take the pic. When this camera dies, I'll probably just get the same type of camera in the latest model.

I'm happy for you that you get to have Megan home again. But yeah, Jess misses her. Now how do I get Jess 'n Alex to move a little closer to our home???

the ones with no rhythm must have been the "white" choir.
