Little Things to Sew - Doll Dress

The suggested 'little thing' to make for the sew-along for January was the bear carrier, but since I'd already made that last May (take a look at it on this post), I decided to make this little doll dress. It was a quick sew (which I needed, since I didn't even cut it out until last Thursday!), and very easy.

One of the things I really liked about the pattern is that it had a shaped hem facing piece, which meant I didn't have to try to sew a regular hem at that curved bottom edge of the skirt. That made it very easy to hem with no easing needed. It also makes for a cute peek if you happen to see under the bottom edge of the dress:

The dress fits an 18" doll, which I don't happen to have. I don't know if it'll fit any of Courtney's dolls, either. (Maybe Annika, Mommy? She could bring her tomorrow to see!) If not, maybe it'll have to just get put away until Courtney gets handed down one of her cousins' dolls. ;) On the other hand, maybe I should just send the dress to the cousins? (Or quick make another one so there are no fights over who gets it? ;) ) Whaddya think?

I'll try to convince her to bring her babies. I'm actually thinking it would fit Molly better, but I'm not sure. I'm sure here cousins would love clothes for their American Girls.
This dress is so cute I really like the pattern. Makes me think Summer...ahhh Summer.

See you in the morning,
Suzi

Very sweet. Is that for an American Girl-sized doll?

Thanks, Suzi... I've emailed you.

Thanks, Cindy. Yep, it says for an 18" doll.

Make a bunch more!:) They fit other size dolls okay too. My girls have put the one dress I made on pretty much every doll/stuffed animal in the house. I love the fabrics you used...they are so pretty together.

Darling Dress! I need to make more doll clothes... Because 2 suitcases of them can't possibly be enough! Afraid we won't be any 18" dolls being handed down any time soon. They play with ALL of them very regularly. We'll have to get Courtney one of her own to bring along for tea parties and play dates.

Thanks, Cindy and Kris! Yep, I think I'll have to make at least one more of these! :)

Very nice! This little doll dress is on my "to sew" list for next month. Hope I find it a quick sew too!

Thanks, Jenny! The only somewhat slow part is the hand-stitching on the hem, but that didn't really take very long.
