It's time to name the babies!

Want to help name Rainbow's latest babies? Here they are, at nearly 4 weeks old:

Yeah, I know... if you were thinking there were 5 of them, you're right. But one of the white ones died, for some unknown reason. The good news there is that we will no longer have trouble telling any of them apart.

Here's the beautiful little calico girl. I'd woken them up, and she just wanted to continue sleeping. :)

See that adorable sleepy little face?

Next is the orange/white one, another female.

She posed quite nicely.

Aww... have another look at that precious face!

Now we have the two white ones. But as you can see, one of them isn't so white anymore. He's the only male, and he's been getting darker right along. The other one looks like she's going to have orange ears, but that's about it for her coloring.

Very white, except for those ears. And very sleepy. :)

Don'tcha just love this little guy's face?!

Yeah, you get another look. And note the dark coloring around his ears. What a cutie!

Soooo.... I'm open to suggestions for names! Toss 'em out here in the comments! Courtney and I will make the final decisions. :)

The first name that came to my mind looking at that cute calico sleepyhead is Cannelle, which translates to Cinnamon. (is it weird to name a cat after a spice?)

And that little male... He looks like he is going to be a big cat with attitude. Maybe something like Jack or Tom?

For the two others, mostly french names seems to come to my mind... Lilou, Caramel, Cléo, Bianca, Blanche, Capucine, Jasmine... Maybe some of them sound alright in english?

I think your suggestions are great (and I have no problem with Cinnamon)! It'd be fun to have kitties with French names. :) I already have a Tommy, although he's not really mine, but he's here nearly every day. He comes to eat my cat food, pester my females, and fight with my resident tom (whose name is Snuggles - ha!). I don't know what his real name is, or if he even has one or belongs to anybody. He keeps his distance from me.

We'll see if there are any more suggestions.......

Hahaha Snuggles! That's so manly :P

I think Courtney helped name him. He WAS very snuggly when he was tiny! :) He still likes to be petted. The poor thing is so beat up, though. He and Tommy (who is likely his father) fight probably every day. But he holds his own! I have recent pics of the two of them (in the same pic!)... I should post them.

Poor kitty! That would be nice to see the pictures though..

When we were kids, we had a cat, big and very territorial, but always gentle with us. He was named Bichou, which is almost as manly as Snuggles. Consequently, I shouldn't have any right to judge any name ever chosen ha!

I think Clementine is a cute name for the orange one, since they are cute little oranges. When I was in middle and high school our cat a few litters of kittens and we always named the girls after First Ladies. There was a Martha, an Abigale, and a Lucy, among others.

We always gave them (and all of our other pets) people names. The one exception was an all black cat named "Spooky". My mom once took him to the vet and they referred to the cat as Spooky Sandler (my maiden name) and my mom decided that she needed to go back to "normal" names if they were going to have last names too! Her current cat even ended up with a middle name- she started out as Cassie. Then it became Cassie Lou. Then one time my mom was mad at her for something and I caught her yelling "Cassandra Louise!"

Great names, Jenny. Big laugh over the "Cassandra Louise"! Too funny! I often call Josie "Josie Lou"... maybe when she gets up to naughtiness (which is rare), she should become "Josephine Louise"? Ha! Annabelle often becomes Annabella... or "Annabellabrat". You can tell who does the naughtiness around here. ;) But then, she's 3 years younger.

Hello, GG! We finally found some time to join in the game. Such a busy week! So the girls were "aaawwww"-ing to no end, but we stopped long enough to brainstorm some names. Here they are:

Calico: Malta or Oreo
Orange-and-white: Snuffles or Stampy
White girl: Snowy or Paige
White boy: Clover or Stormy

Even if we don't get picked, we are just glad to have been able to see those adorable little faces and paws. LOOOOOVE kitty paws.

I scream:

Calico: Mellie (short for caramel like Genevieve said above)
Orange and white: Melba (short for peach melba)
White male: Nello (short for vanilla-oh because he's a boy)
White female: Blondie

for cute kitttens!

Ooohh... more fun names! Deciding will be hard! We'll leave the nominations open through Tuesday night, and then Courtney and I will decide on Wednesday when she's here again.

Ooh! I haven't gotten to name a kitten for a while. Such fun!

My votes are:
Calico: Patches
Orange and white: Seconding Jenny's vote for Clementine, or Marmalade
White male: Smoke or Radar (for the dark grey ears?)
White female: Iris

Can't wait to see what you and Courtney decide!

Also, I'm sorry about the other baby. At the animal shelter where I volunteer, they say the babies that pass for no reason had "tired kitten syndrome." It's never easy to lose one.

Grandma G said...

Thanks, Blue! Nice that you work at a shelter! Yes, I've heard of "tired kitten syndrome" before... as good an explanation as any for "I don't know why it died", I guess.

BTW, Patches is out... already have one of those. :) I'm really liking Smoke (or Smoky), though!

And today Grandpa discovered more kittens! They belong to Patches and are a week older than Rainbow's. I haven't seen them yet. He said they're very wild. I think I'll have to sneak out with the camera sometime. And will save any leftover names! ;)

More kittens?! Maybe you'll be working at a shelter too eventually.. Grandma g's farm shelter :P

Grandma G said...

Yes!! More kittens! AND... I saw and got great photos of them all! There are 4 beautiful, healthy, very wild babies. Can't wait to show you!

I guess we've been "sheltering" cats/kittens for many years, Geneviève. ;) And that's not all... Autumn's mama (a.k.a. Mama) looks like she's due any day now. But she usually has hers across the road at the neighbor's and brings them over here for me to feed through the winter. Ha.

We'll be needing those names! :)

I just love the whiteish one that wears eye liner on the tips of it's ears.

He can be yours in a few weeks, Grace! Maybe you need some new blood? ;)
