Ooohh, look!

This is a first for my birdbath... or at least that I've seen, anyway! I see bluejays often in the evergreen trees behind our house, but they're always so elusive that I can never get a good photo of them. They hop around so much, in and out of the trees, and if I get near the window with the camera, they're gone. So I was VERY surprised to see them at the birdbath on Saturday. I stealthily moved to grab the camera, and then I shot these pics from the middle of the kitchen, which is probably about 25 feet away. Not too bad for a too-low light situation and through dirty windows, huh? I'm considering myself extremely lucky. :)

They even bathed in that icy-cold water! I'm not sure it was even completely thawed out yet.

They aren't exactly the nicest of birds, but aren't they pretty?

They sure made the water fly!

I hope they come back.

Love these guys. They are beautiful birds. My mom used to describe the noise they make as sounding like a squeaky clothes line. My kids say - what is that? Ha! There was one of those out the backdoor of both my mom's house and my grand mom's house but in any of the houses I've lived in as an adult - no clothes line!

I have a clothesline... use it all summer! It doesn't squeak, though. I can't imagine it ever sounding like a bluejay. :)

Yeah, bluejays have an incredible repertoire of sounds.
Sometimes it's so odd that you just have to search really hard to figure out what is making that sound.
But, I have never heard anything as unusual as a Black Billed Cuckoo.
(only heard it once)

Pretty! And makes me cold just thinking about taking a bath in that water.

Well, Dale... I had never even heard 'of' a Black Billed Cuckoo until now. I shall have to look it up online and see what it sounds like!

Doesn't take much to make you cold, Jess. ;)

Yeah, they're almost as pretty as orioles, aren't they, Lori? :)
