American Girl doll jeans

My new little model, Kit, has been back at work. Her top is part of the outfit she came with, but I made the jeans she's modeling here:

The pattern is another I bought from Liberty Jane Patterns. It was so cute I couldn't pass it up! Just look at the details!

Although the fly is fake, the pockets are functional pockets, front and back. :)

Don't give me too much credit for sewing those parallel stitching lines so evenly. I dug out my double needle that I hadn't used for 25+ years to do the topstitching. It worked like a charm!

So fun, and a perfect fit! The pattern I used showed the jeans distressed, which made them really cute and fashionable, and I considered doing that to these. I found how-to tutorials, and it's pretty easy to do. But even though it's "fashion", I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I never could understand having a brand new pair of jeans looking like they're ready for the trash heap. I consulted Courtney and Mommy about it, and they agreed that not having holes in them would be better. After having put the jeans on the dolls, I found that they are definitely better this way. They're very fitted, and the dolls' feet barely make it through the pant legs. I can imagine toes getting caught in the holes and not only tearing the jeans more, but making for a very frustrated little girl trying to get them on.

Because she had no school, Courtney was here for the whole day yesterday. I had made up a treasure hunt with clues to help her find my doll and some new clothes. She had a blast, and (to no one's surprise) she LOVED my little model! She had brought her AG Marie Grace along, and we had tons of fun playing with them together. Photos coming later this week.....

Oh my goodness, very cute jeans. So that's what a twin needle is for....:-)

Thanks, Kris! Yep, that's what it's for... among other things. :)
