I learned something new

Did you ever notice little clumps of teeny-tiny eggs on the outsides of your windows and wonder what might have laid them? I have. Last night I happened to see a culprit in action. It was hard to get a good photo, because it was pitch dark outside, and there were too many reflections on the inside of the window, so here's the best I could do:

It was just a plain ol' moth. She was very busy. I must've disturbed her, though, because usually the eggs are all together in a little bunch. She moved around a bit as I was trying to get a picture.

Here's how they looked this morning, very white:

Higher up on the same window is another bunch of eggs laid sometime earlier:

That is the actual color. I think they'll be hatching soon. I don't know how long they've been there. I'll have to keep watch on the new eggs to see how long it takes. I'm just glad they're on the outside of the window, and I hope none of the larvae venture indoors!

The other critter whose eggs you often see stuck to surfaces is the boxelder bug.
They are a little larger than the moth eggs and usually in a cluster similar to your lower photo.
It appears that both can be quite prolific.

Very interesting. I'm impressed that you got that photo of the moth laying her eggs!

I've never seen this before, I confess! As a lover of wool yarn, it kind of gives me the heebeeejeeebeees.
